Strengthening the cultural identity of the Danube region by building on our common heritage of ART NOUVEAU
02COOL NOUVEAU
At the turn of 20th century, Bratislava transformed itself into a modern metropolis. The first trams were ringing through the streets, propeller-driven boats appeared, cafes were opening up and sports clubs were coming into existence. The entire city was buzzing in the first major wave of modernization. A series of contemporary postcards depict the city with elevated railway lines stretching boldly over street corners and flying machines soaring over them in the sky. Already the city had the feeling of a metropolis. Today you could say that the city felt “cool”. This is the feeling that Cool Nouveau tries to convey.

03EMPATHY IN ART
Building on the recent research on opinion orientation of the university students that has shown a certain level of intolerance and hate speech against disadvantaged groups (foreigners and immigrants but also social, ethnic and other minorities in particular), the objective of the Creative Centre at FAD STU in Bratislava is to educate the university and high-school students in the field of social, ethical and cultural issues in a peaceful and non-traditional form. The grant calls to support diverse activities of the Creative Centre in particular fields of art, such as performing arts, visual arts, reflection of arts and culture as well as interdisciplinary artistic and theoretical activities in the cultural and creative area).

04LIVING DANUBE LIMES
Valorising cultural heritage and fostering sustainable tourism by LIVING the common heritage on the DANUBE LIMES as basis for a Cultural Route. Fostering a common bond in the Danube Region via heritage shared by all Danube countries is the main aim of the Danube Transnational Programme project “Living Danube Limes”. The Roman Danube Limes heritage and the Danube itself connect Central Europe with South-Eastern Europe, and Living Danube Limes will further enhance that connection by highlighting the common heritage and the potential it holds for future development.
Studying at the FAD STU has been the most wonderful personal and academically rewarding experience ever! The Faculty offers something for everyone, and never fails to promote events that supplement the value of the architectural education that we receive.
Cornelius Van der Westhuizen, PhD. student
I would choose FAD STU due to the highest standards of education which will qualify the student with all the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge. Furthermore the Faculty is a warm and friendly academic environment which every student will feel as a "second home".
Elpida Barpagianni, MSc. graduate
I recommend studying at FAD STU, because professors are qualified and interesting to study with them, especially now after Covid-offline-era. I can see real development of my architectural skills and I am happy about it!
Oleksii Zolochevskyi, MSc. student
I am happy that I have chosen FAD STU for pursuing my master's degree. The professors are kind, knowledgeable, and skilled. They are very helpful, especially during the COVID-19 situation. The program has helped me to gain a lot of knowledge in theoretical, and practical aspects, and in developing new skills during the course by going beyond my limits. FAD offers a variety of options for vertical design studios which are available in English.
Madhu Sain, MSc. student
Enrolling in the Master in Architecture program at STU was one of the best choices I have made in my life. The content of the course was of essential help when I was eager for changes in my career. I came to Slovakia as a foreigner who had no contacts at all, but I didn’t feel treated bad or differently from anyone. Teachers aimed at the progress of their students and showed empathy and understanding. Finally, I made strong friendships with my closest colleagues and I got the positive transformation professionally during and after completing the studies.
I would like to encourage students to choose FAD and to make a successful story in their professional life, to learn from the amazing lecturers and to make their ideas alive.

02Czech Embassy in Ethiopia
The main idea for the design of the embassy was promotion of the wall as security element to something more. We did not think about it as a barrier and necessary evil, but a tool for creating different types of space. This principle refused to be a grid, supported by alleys of trees and water areas. In the spirit of sustainability, we used local materials, shading techniques and passive ventilation in a form typical of Africa, "windcatcher", in other words a chimney catching wind and distributing it to various areas of building. Also we designed small product gardens for everybody to be a little bit closer to sustaining ourselves.
The resolved location is in the residential part of the city Addis Ababa. We focused on the solution of microurbanism within our parcel. For public-only accessible objects, the visa and consular department is located from the east side of landed property. The residence of ambassador and residential building is connected to the colonnade in the center. With the help of perforated brick walls, we separated different function spaces, such as representative one, or space for ambassador' s family or workers from administrative buildings.

03Sport and Relax Zone, Bratislava – Čunovo
When designing, I tried to preserve the natural character of the environment and especially to highlight the proximity of the Danube and its positive impact on the creation of public recreation areas. At the same time, however, to create a recreational space full of various activities, from sailing along the created canal, to a lookout tower between the treetops.

04Between Saint Denis
The aim of our proposal was to create a connection and connect the 6 embankments of Saint-Denis. The concept is mainly social in nature, where it seeks to point out the link between indigenous peoples and migrants. That's why the idea of a bridge was created, which symbolizes connection and gives people new housing opportunities and new life… and perhaps a stronger legacy for Paris that the people who came are part of the city. In the central part, ie in the competition location, the aim was to design the required functions, namely housing, school, kindergarten, leisure activities with regard to the requirements of multi-comfort. The original factory and its new form create a basis for city life, which aims to show people the new goal of living in green cities in the future and the justification for the symbiosis of nature and buildings.

05Conversion of the Baťa Factory Building in the city of Partizánske
The aim of the assignment was the conversion of an industrial building in the town of Partizánske, which was part of the Baťa urban concept of the industrial town. The solved building has a very important role in the city's architecture from a value and historical point of view. The proposal focuses on several points - the so-called ten to elevate the dilapidated building to a new function. In the design, I work with the original mass of the building and use everything it offers. Interventions in the object consist in its adaptation to a new function. It is mainly about making the ground floor more attractive and activating the roof plane, which is achieved by the superstructure. In the interior, I work with the selection of modules that will ensure contact even in the vertical direction. Neoplasms should not exceed the original appearance of the building, they should only correspond to the new way of use. The new function is to raise the overall cultural as well as social life in the town of Partizánske.

06Poly-functional high-rise building, Bajkalská-Trnavská St., Bratislava
In my project, we focused mainly on an interesting, not typical, construction, which would specialize the overall perceived architecture of the building. In the functions that I designed for the high-rise building, I followed the zoning plan of the city of Bratislava. The functional content is: department store, cafes, restaurant, office space, congress halls. The project involved a logical interconnection of functions, the creation of free layouts, thanks to the proposed construction and the overall good functioning of the building with the comfort of customers or employees. When solving the load-bearing structure, I designed several variants, but I chose the final version only after consulting with several structural engineers.

07Partizánske – City of Tomáš Baťa: Ideal Place without Ideals?
Our goal was to prove that the Baťa architecture can be worked on and that the area, which is now unused, can be transformed into a functional zone of the city with its own center connected to the existing center. Of course, we worked with an ideal economic and political situation, and this resulted in a study that is a beautiful dream. Nevertheless, we also worked in the project with the near future and with interventions that can be implemented within 1-2 years and are not utopia. These are real possibilities and perhaps even steps that the city should take on the way to saving Baťa's industrial heritage.

08 Old Town Hall, Bratislava – Prievoz
The main area is the ceremonial hall, which the city district lacks. In the design, I promote airiness, lightness and principles of universal design. The building is designed so that even the physically handicapped can walk smoothly through the space. I express the integrity of the design in simplicity with an emphasis on detail and the use of uniform materials throughout the building. This architecture becomes a multifunctional center.

09Ferrejig (transport concept)
The river vessel of the "catamaran" type was the starting point for thinking about streamlining public transport in the Danube region, in order to exploit the potential of its water bodies. It was possible to reduce bottlenecks and create columns in the infrastructure of arrivals to the capital, also to alleviate the level of smog. Later, the idea developed into general bodies of water. Catamaran propulsion and an alternative energy source are understood as a concept of this type of shuttle service.
