Support for Ukraine and its people
The STU Faculty of Architecture and Design joins the voices calling for an end to Russian aggression, halting the violence and an immediate return to diplomacy. We do not wish for our students to be educated in an atmosphere of unrest, and crisis of the basic human values that go hand-in-hand with war. We believe that conflicts will not expand to the academic environment and will not affect the academic rights and freedoms of students at our faculty, regardless of their nationality.
In this difficult situation, the faculty management is in contact with our Ukrainian students, and we strive to help them. Together with the STU management, we are looking for opportunities for financial support and are also addressing you: employees and students of our faculty, so that you – if you can – get involved in one of the ongoing fund-raising campaigns, for example through any of these non-profit organizations:
Enrolled / current students: STU measures in a crisis situation related to the war in Ukraine
Based on the summarized requirements and needs of the students affected by the military conflict in Ukraine the STU crisis team took several precautions at its meeting on Tuesday, March 1, 2022.
- Extraordinary scholarship:
All foreign students in distress being affected by the ongoing war who apply for support via AIS will be granted a scholarship in the amount of 200 euro from the University’s own funds. The scholarship can only be disbursed to Slovak bank accounts and can be granted repeatedly.
- Accommodation and payments:
All foreign students in distress being affected by the ongoing war who for various reasons are not able to settle their accounts for their lodging are assured by the STU that their accommodation will be guaranteed for the whole summer semester of the academic year 2021/22 and the deferment of the respective payments will be accepted without any sanctions. Students will be informed about the next steps.
- The Study:
For all war-affected students, the university will look for ways to mitigate the impact of the current situation on their studies. We will assist in addressing the individual requirements of students in an effort to help them continue their studies. However, the affected students are asked to co-operate and communicate with the lecturers and/or the study departments of the faculties.
- Possibilities of temporary accommodation:
The Slovak University of Technology has already offered the state authorities the use of the special purpose facility in Gabčíkovo for temporary accommodation of war-imperilled Ukrainian citizens, including families with children.
- Admission procedure:
STU will strive to simplify the conditions of admission to study for students from war-affected areas in the future, even in those cases where there are difficulties in proving the previous education. An opportunity for transfer to STU will be provided for those who will show an interest or will have to change the place of study.
- Zero tolerance:
STU does not accept any indications of any form of animosity between nations, ethnicities, races and religions. Violation of these rules may lead to expulsion from the study.
- A crisis link for students stuhelpsukraine@googlegroups.com has been established. At this forum most forms of help are being communicated and coordinated directly by our students. In case of more serious problems, students affected by the war can also contact the line ukrajina@stuba.sk.
Enrolled / current students: STU has set up a transparent account to help students from war-affected areas
The Slovak University of Technology continues its activities to help its students from war-affected areas in Ukraine. STU has set up a transparent bank account to provide emergency assistance, to cover the basic needs as well as to support their study.
