The Fenix prize awarded for an extraordinary act of preserving a national cultural monument goes to the Utility building of the Castle Uhrovec.
The award was given for a highly professional approach to rescue, rehabilitatate and make accessible the castle ruins, especially the utility building.
This time-consuming and technically demanding process of restoration, carried out by the studio ô (Martin Varga, Martin Kvitkovský, Pavol Pauliny – members of the FAD STU), was based on new architectural and historical discoveries, which have gradually been implemented into the project design. All interventions are reversible, designed to minimize interference with the original substance of the monument. The selected approach, with an emphasis on preserving of building’s individual values, while consistently applying traditional craft technologies and local materials, supports the integration of the restored utility building into the castle ensemble.
