How can we plan our cities more efficiently and effectively? A new collaboration project between the STU Faculty of Architecture and Design, and the University of Stavanger, Norway, explores the sustainability of cities and communities. The consequences of climate change are rapidly approaching us than what previous predictions have warned us about.
These consequences are even multiplied by the energy crisis. This situation affects architects and urban planners significantly more than other professions. Because of these crises, these professions are responsible for determining the degree of difficulty of heating or cooling objects, designing the microclimate of public spaces, or in deciding on the use of appropriate building materials and processes with a large carbon footprint. What tools and technologies do we have at our disposal to mitigate these adverse trends? Is it really not possible to design our cities more efficiently?
Finding answers to these questions is the goal of the new collaboration between FAD STU and the University of Stavanger through the project “Sustainability of cities and communities in planning and architecture”, supported by Norwegian grants and the state budget. The cooperation with the Norwegian partners will last until April 2024 and will also include the innovation of the content and teaching methods of several subjects at the bachelor’s and engineering degree under the guidance of doc. Ing. arch. Katarína Smatanová, PhD. and doc. Ing. arch. Lea Rollová, PhD.
The project will also include joint consultations of diploma and doctoral theses with Norwegian architects, the opportunity to travel for a short research mobility to the University of Stavanger, a final workshop and a conference connected with the presentation of all new knowledge.
The KA2 Erasmus+ CT.Uni: Creative Thinking Taking an Innovative and STEAM Approach for a Transdisciplinary University project was playing an important role within a series of conferences, seminars, workshops held in June 2024 in Bratislava.
For the twenty-third time, the Night of Architecture and Design will take place at the Faculty of Architecture and Design of STU at 19 Liberty Square in Bratislava. The gates of the faculty will open to the public on Thursday, 20 June 2023 at 16.00.

The Faculty of Architecture and Design of STU in Bratislava has achieved a great success. We have been ranked 5th among the TOP 100 best architecture and engineering universities in the world thanks to our success in the INSPIRELI AWARDS competition, which involved students of our faculty.

Students of the 5th year of FAD STU in Bratislava Samuel Andrejčák, Jakub Čerešník and Lukáš Bím won the Buildner Student Award for their Elderly oasis project in the international Buildner competition.
The international jury, composed of recognized experts in individual areas of product design, spent two demanding days in Hurbanové kasárne (Hurban Barracks) evaluating and assessing 79 works in 8 categories of product design and selected those from which we will recognize the laureates in the fall. Each work was carefully assessed according to important criteria such as originality, aesthetics, functionality, technical maturity and sustainability.
