FAD STU doctoral student Vlasta Kubušová, co-founder of crafting platics! studio, and MIT scientific researcher Andreas Mershin jointly received a grant from the MIT-Slovakia MISTI Global Seed Funding (GSF) in 2022 for the Interactive Biomaterials project. The project is financed by the Ministry of Investments, Regional Development and Informatization of the Slovak Republic, which concluded an agreement with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2021 with the aim of financing joint projects and research cooperation. On the occasion of the partner visit to Slovakia, on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., at FEI STU (hall CD-150), Andreas Mershin will give a public lecture on the topic „Academia to Entrepreneurship (Lab to Market) and Beyond“. The lecture will be in English without translation.
Dr. Andreas Mershin (www.mershin.org) retired from academia this June after 26 years as a principal investigator. For 19 years he led „blue-sky“ research and practical development as director of the MIT Label Free Research Group (2004-2023). He led research funded by companies such as the American National Science Foundation (NSF), Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA), GlasxoSmithKline and Standard Banking Group. dr. Mershin has taught undergraduate and graduate courses at MIT in physics, molecular biophysics of olfaction, and „mycotexture„. Since 2014, he has taught entrepreneurship, innovation and his famous course „Lab to Market the MIT Way“ globally, including the MIT Sloan Executive Education and Advanced Management Programs.
He has received several US and international patents and published numerous peer-reviewed articles in leading scientific journals on the topics of learning and memory, machine olfaction, scent biophysics, photosynthesis and perceptual engineering. His work has been covered by world media in dozens of languages. He develops technologies used by established industries and startups he co-founded. He is the president and co-founder of the Osmocosm Foundation, a non-profit non-profit foundation, the co-founder of MycoHab and the co-founder and chief scientist of the emerging startup RealNose.ai – with the aim of bringing the power of artificial (canine) intelligence and machine olfaction to the medical diagnostics environment.
He is a private pilot and diver.
