FAQ

Here is a list of questions that we are getting on a regular basis from from potential candidates. Hope they will help you. If you still have not found what you are looking for, do not hesitate to contact us at apply.fad@stuba.sk.

How would I go about meeting a PhD supervisor?

Every year we offer the possibility to suggest your specified PhD topic within the offered Key Research Area. Get in touch with us (apply.fad@stuba.sk) and you will be sent a Specification of Dissertation Topic (Google Form). You will have a chance to send us your suggestions/specifications and we will navigate you through the application process. If a serious interest and skills are shown, we will be more than happy to mediate contact with your future tutors. The service is offered at no extra cost.

There is a possibility to communicate with the supervisor when:

  • the candidate has shown a serious interest;
  • claims personal and professional qualities presented in the portfolio
  • his/her proposed topic is relevant for supervisor’s current research
How can I better prepare myself for the BSc studies?

Do I need an IELTS certificate for my application and studies?

No certificate is needed. The online examination procedure includes testing of the candidate’s English language skills (competency level: B2). The minimum grade that will be accepted for this part of the text, is 50 %. However, should you already have an IELTS certificate, you need not worry about having difficulty completing the English examination.

Can I work whilst also doing my PhD?

It is up to you if you want to find a job, we do not mediate nor facilitate a job search. We can provide contacts for job agencies. STU provides courses of Slovak language (for a fee) to help you get around.

What is the cost of living and the accommodation structure?

The STU has student dormitories within walking distance, and can accommodate students in double bedrooms. There is also the Hotel Akademik, situated very close to most of the STUs faculties (also within walking distance), that provides rooms for a single person.

Please check the following links that provide full information for incoming international students.

Other useful links Does your faculty offer scholarships?

The FAD STU unfortunately does not offer any specific funding. However, the Slovak Academic Information Agency (SAIA), an NGO, provides detailed information about different applicable scholarships. We have a close cooperation agreement with SAIA, do not hesitate to reach out to B. Košťálová: beata.kostalova@saia.sk or M. Mergová: magdalena.mergova@saia.sk
